Cheap Leadership

Be on your guard with pseudo-leaders.  Leadership is earned, not mimicked.  It starts with being interested in another’s issues and problems and bypassing the narcism which posers can’t get past.

There are fake writers, speakers, salespeople, customer service reps, technicians and marketers everywhere.  They are not thinking about you and helping you.  They are thinking of themselves.  When you encounter them in business and life, my encouragement is not to get jaded.  Don’t let them make you believe the real thing does not exist.  Just be keen to know the difference.

In assessing talent, look for clues.  Are they fully human, fully alive, fully articulate and full of compassion?  Those are the people to seek out and hold close. They will help you and your business get far.

It amazes me how buyers can’t tell the difference between a person of substance and ability and one who is like the Music Man.  Turn the sound off and look at the actions of a person.  True leaders deliver and carry themselves far differently.  All the tools we have today do not replace the integrated person a leader is.
