Do Something Nice For Someone

What could be in the box that you could give?

Each day I feel like is a great opportunity to make a difference for someone. It doesn’t have to be much or it could be a lot as well. Sending an unexpected gift, helping with critical advice that helps with building wealth, connecting people that could benefit from each other and many things that just take a little thought and care make life fun.

I like doing business with people that think likewise. It’s fun to do business with high trust. However, you might find the same problems with people out there in our business culture. A lot of people are like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. In their personal life, they are pleasant. However, when it comes to business, they feel like they can be selfish and scarce in their behaviors. They are thinking business is a zero-sum game and there are winners and losers, thus they take rather than give. It’s pretty common. Some can blame it on capitalism. I think it has more to do with misaligned values and worldview. They see the world wrong.

To me, it’s bad business to be a taker. Looking out only for your interests, whether you are a seller, a partner or a customer to someone becomes part of your personal brand. Your reputation follows you and if you emit foul odors your opportunities are much more limited than they could be if you simply focused on doing something nice for someone each day.

Everyone is walking around with problems. With the takers, I say, be on your guard, but also take a risk and do something nice. It may not necessarily change them, but I have seen responses that have been complete shock. It is powerful to show kindness.

We have only a short time on this planet and going through it seeing who can get the most toys is a pathetic existence. Seeing how many people you can make their day with is much more exciting and expands your life.

Start today. Pick one person. Spend some money. Put forth some effort and make their day. It’s good business.

  1. Hey Don,

I’ve definitely been on the receiving in of your gifts. Conversations over a beer on how to add value to my business…with no strings attached from you. Thanks.
