One of the mantras we teach around our household is
Major on the majors and minor on the minors.
We try to focus on the things that matter and put in due energy and attention. It’s a way to fight against the noise and irrelevance of so much of life and focus on what matters.
When we start to micromanage details at the cost of the bigger picture, life can get distorted quickly. It’s not a good use of energy or time.
On the other hand macromanaging works well to keep above the fray of demands that are less relevant. Majoring on the majors is hard because urgent things are always pulling at us.
But it comes down to the question of whether you want to push forward on a bigger goal or agenda. You can’t do this by reacting or spending yourself in areas that are minor.
You only have so much time, money and energy. Are you majoring on minors and minoring on majors? Stop the madness. Refocus and evaluate. It’s how you push the ball forward.
