Because You Don’t Ask

communication requires asking

There are two types of people in the world: Those that make things happen and those that wait for something to happen.

My observation is the vast majority of people are in the latter group. They get asked to do things all the time and then they react. They are reactionary.

And then they miss out. They are on the outside looking in all the time. Someone else is doing better. Another person has the opportunity you want.

If you’re in that crowd, consider the unfairness you see as much of your own doing. You don’t have because you don’t ask.

Asking takes risk. It means you know what you want and what you’re worth. You put your ask out there with the risk of rejection.

It’s why so many people shy away from selling. Fundamentally, you have to learn to ask for something.

Every day, you can move your life and business forward if you focus on the ask. What if you:

  1. Asked for the role you wanted? You might find fulfillment.
  2. Asked someone to be your customer? You could open up a whole new reality.
  3. Asked to get paid? You might be more motivated.
  4. Asked for less work relative to your compensation? You might not burn out.

This all means you have to take responsibility. Noone is looking out for your best interest. Noone cares about you more than you.

That can feel raw, but have you seen it any other way?

All those things you are frustrated by or don’t have, could it be that you have not asked?
