When you are trying to grow a business or launch an initiative, it gets blurry pretty quickly. There is always that pull of activity that requires focus and many actions. In a lot of ways this moves the needle of progress.
However, if you don’t look up often, then you could just be busy. You may just be treading water rather than getting anywhere. It’s easy to do. The seductive nature of busy work has that effect on all of us. We don’t have to think or take ownership of results if we let ourselves get lulled into the busy effect.
But in a world where many of us are not told what to do, it’s our own job and initiative which will move the needle. Making progress means continual evaluation of the effort.
Yes, there are those things that we have to get done. We have to narrow the focus and simply execute.
But just be sure this is not done at the expense of broadening your view and seeing the bigger picture. Otherwise, your work may be off course to what really matters.
Try taking a step back and ensure you are always in context, on target and moving the needle in the right direction.
