Tips For Managing Your Work Energy

manage work energy

Some of us are lucky to have a giant amount of energy when we wake up. If this is you, then you may need to burn it with lots of projects, tasks, and even extra hobbies. Congrats on winning the energy lottery!

However, if you find yourself getting toasted from your workload, dealing with people or stretching beyond your comfort zone, then you have to manage your energy wisely.

Here are some tips for managing your work energy each day:

  1. Get alone and simply close your eyes. This can be outside in the sunlight or in a quiet place.
  2. Have a quick break with one friend you enjoy. Simply chat and get out anything that you are carrying emotionally.
  3. Take a 10 minute walk. It’s simple and accessible. Your energy and mindset will be different.
  4. Take a 20 minute nap. Your brain will be much sharper.
  5. Have your favorite drink alone. Slow down. Don’t look at anything. Just enjoy the time and flavors.
  6. Read some fiction. Carry a book and get lost in a story that you enjoy. Read a few pages when you need a brain break to get your mind drifting elsewhere.

Managing energy is critical to be productive. Being aware of what recharges you can become a secret weapon for the long game.

In the Culture Index Survey, one of the seven work related traits we measure is your “Energy Units.” This will give you great insights into how much energy you wake up with each day and if your job is requiring more or less energy from you than what you bring to the table each day.
