I have worked remotely for about 18 years. Maybe my attraction to using systems helps. Largely, I have been remote because I like freedom, my family and getting things done.
When I worked in an office, I had so much wasted time. It’s hard to go through a day without constantly being interrupted or being in a chit chat session at the water cooler. Furthermore, it was impossible to do deep, meaningful work when your attention is being pulled.
Sometimes, the energy of a team can be stimulating, especially with sales. Other times, when I’m trying to think through a strategy or work on design, interruptions can be derailing. I found myself working late nights at home to get the work done. Yes, I’m sure many of you work somewhere outside the office to get real work done as well.
Over the years, I have built many many companies, and I can tell you that remote work has so many advantages. When COVID hit, what workers already knew about the benefits of working remotely became a mainstream trend. The CEO’s of companies allowed their employees to work from home and the momentum of work location shifted. Business results supported the advantage of lower overhead, higher worker job satisfaction and higher productivity. The world changed. Finally.
It’s an exciting time to build a life you love. If you are not remote, try to be. There is plenty of opportunity. If you are remote, build a rich life! Your imagination of what that can look like can take you to a world of excitement and freedom.
