Take Care of Business and Go Big On Fun

Life flies by fast, and I am a firm believer in disrupting the norms so you can grow and keep maximizing fun while you work hard.

If you are in the grind, here are some tips and tools to help you take care of business so you can go big on your fun!

  1. Don’t finish everything: “Sometimes the best way to finish a project is to just drop it completely.” ~ Arianna Huffington
  2. Know your work style. In the Culture Index, we understand that there are some people who work methodically and others that like pressure. If you are someone who focuses, needs to have a quiet space and finishes one task at a time, be sure to set up your private work space or request your own personal office. It’s the way you work best. Open work spaces are not for everyone.
  3. Give to givers. A tip from Adam Grant. Givers recognize takers and are cautious about giving to them, preferring to focus their efforts on those who might pay it forward. Invest your efforts and energy wisely.
  4. Pen and paper. I was stuck on a problem. I got away and used my Docket Gold legal pad and Uniball Vision Elite 0.5 mm pen to unload a ton of emotion and thinking. It’s cathartic and is exactly what Kevin Kelly says, “I write primarily to find out what I’ve been thinking, and I don’t know until I write it.”
  5. Walk wide. Sonya and I have put in 10,000 to 20,000 steps a day for the last four years. We start in the morning with a walk and take many breaks while working. Our go-to shoes are Altra’s. They are wide footbeds that allow your feet to spread. There’s a zero drop, and I always look forward to putting these on for a quick stroll. We’ve also heard that Lems are very similar and even more sturdy. Get your steps on!
