We used to be praised for analysis. If you were thorough, deliberate and methodical in gaining information for a project, purchase or RFQ, you had value. Of course, time mattered a lot less back then. Everyone was dependent within an imperfect communications system. Sales cycles could take months. Shipping products could take years. Your Unseen Rival
Sport teaches us much about life. Tenacity, competition and courage play major roles in victors and losers. I enjoy the stories and documentaries of sports legends. Magic Johnson and Larry Bird were legendary rivals. Their work ethic and surreal ability to raise the game, players and league around them to new heights stemmed from whatContinue reading “Your Unseen Rival”
Inspire Or Require
There is very little joy in going to the post office or waiting in line at the DMV. We are required to use these services, yet often have reluctance. Going to the Apple store on the other hand is something we can look forward to. Getting ice cream at Marble Slab Creamery puts a smileContinue reading “Inspire Or Require”
Yes, Exceptions
When you propose a new idea, be prepared for the typical automaton response from those you share with, “Is this going to work for every single customer?” “Will it apply to everything we do?” “What about all of the work we have done?” The questions come in all different shapes and sizes. Consider this stirring appealContinue reading “Attitude Via Rework”

They make what is otherwise difficult look seamless, integrated and pure. It inspires most of us to go out and buy their gear – the clothes they wear, theContinue reading “Ideas And Execution”
Inextricably Linked
Leadership starts first and foremost with vision. You have to know what you want and where you are going. Then you have to have people buy your vision. No followers, no leadership. There are those who think they can run a business or survive in an increasingly competitive marketplace with a street map trying toContinue reading “Inextricably Linked”
Barriers to Execution
It is difficult today to focus and execute. I like what I heard from a client the other day, “We like working with AscendWorks. While others talk, you guys do. We need more doers, not talkers.” I thought that captured a great essence on what can easily differentiate those who thrive in the new economy and I was grateful to hear the compliment.
Any accomplishment requires action. Action that is not focused and strategic is just busyness. If you are in the busy business today, you are becoming irrelevant. Our patience and attention are too short compared to previous decades. If you want to be in the execution business in order to become more valuable and attractive, focus on the following:
